The Hottest New (Old) Trend In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!

It's not a big surprise that a classic American design like the Adirondack Chair has made such a comeback in the last couple of years. This retro fad is spreading fast because folks all over America are choosing to spend more and more free time kicking back and relaxing in their meticulously crafted outside living space. I remember as a six year old, sinking into one of these wonderful old chairs, with my feet hanging just over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled the apples we picked and talked about the yummy apple pie piled high with ice cream that we knew my grandma was going to have for us after we had supper. Balancing my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was peaceful and warm. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It is really no mystery why we like to relax outdoors, whether it is out on the porch, on the deck, out on the patio, or in your garden area. There may not be a better way to relax than to slide in to a deep seated, wonderful, high backed Adirondack chair and let it all go.

Where did this part of American culture come from? Actually, it comes from the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. This design was prevalent among the several resorts and mountain retreats that were so trendy back then. By the 1940s you could find Adirondack furniture just about everywhere. The furniture design started spreading south and headed west quickly. As the Adirondack style got more popular, and made its way around the country, regional influences started showing up. The furniture design was applied to a lot of styles of outdoor furniture including; porch swings, rocking chairs, benches, gliders, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This enchanting design incorporates two chairs with a table between them and is constructed as one piece. What a great way to spend a warm Summer day with someone who loves you!

You'll be surprised and satisfied to find a great selection of Adirondack furniture on the market today. Not only has the original furniture design stood the test of time, but the whole Adirondack craze has exploded with a delightful supply of finishes, styles, colors, and material. Classic Adirondack style furniture is constructed from wood known to resist deterioration and insects including oak, cherry, red or white cedar, or cypress. The wood that is chosen is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do individual furniture designs. A hot new addition to conventional Adirondack style is garden furniture built out of polymer "lumber" that is made out of recycled plastic packaging, milk jugs, and such. Not only is this an environmentally responsible way to invest in your furniture, but you have some advantages with durableness, easy care, longevity, and your colors aren't going to fade as the pigment is mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors to protect it.
