Learning Spanish & Romance in Spain
You have done it. Months of careful planning, penny pinching, and tenacity have been worth it and
you are now traveling to and studying in a
spanish speaking country.
You are ready to engulf yourself in the local culture and go through all the excitement
that staying in a foreign destination can bring. Cities like
Buenos Aires,
Granada, and
Quito are renowned for
their romantic qualities. And maybe - just possibly - you can find a bit of time for a
little romance. After all, you are young, fit, and you date a lot at
home, right? So why not try out your skills here?
Why not, indeed! Finding romance in a foreign nation has its own kind
of draw. You are abroad, and you cannot wait to experience the places
and practices that are all so new to you. Finding that you are attracted to one of
the locals can increase your excitement and machination toward the foreign country much more
than any art exhibit or course! The opportunities to meet potential dates extend from
inside a Spanish language school
to a local coffee bar or hotel, and even just a random street corner.
There is one trouble, however. You happen to know just enough of the
Spanish language to Ask where
you are located, (you are lost a lot), and say please and thank you. Other than
that you use the regular universal language for other things, such as bringing
your hand repeatedly to your open mouth (where can I find food?), pretending to
wash your hands (I need a bathroom), or waving (hello, goodbye).
You may be capable of finding a way to Ask this person who has caught your eye out on
a lunch date, but what about after that? How in the heavens are you supposed to
display to your date how brainy, worldly, and irresistible you are if all you can
do is ask where the restaurant bathroom is and wave goodbye to your date as you
go there? All of the exhilaration of
traveling abroad in Costa
Rica or studying Spanish in
beautiful Madrid can be
overpowering, and now you have to worry about not making a fool of yourself in
front of this terrific human being?
It will be a great call to plan for this contingency (you being the young,
healthy, magnetic, dateable creature that you are, after all) before you even
climbed on the airplane. Gaining a little underlying cognition of some dating
language in your designated lovers
Spanish language, whether you will
study in Spain or
live in Argentina, can
go a long way in assisting you over the rough spots while eating with the object of your
affection. Learning some Spanish
phrases can go a long way.
Tell your date that you are a foreign student, learning or volunteering
in his/her beautiful homeland. A beautiful Spanish woman is in all likelihood to be moved by the fact
that you are immersed in Spanish in
Barcelona, and a sexy Argentinean man is likely to be impressed by an
American gal studying in Buenos
Aires. This could score you an insider tour of arenas known only by the natives,
and will most likely make your date more sympathetic. After all, you love
his/her motherland enough to travel hundreds to thousands of miles away from your country to
study there!
Utilizing universal signals, body language, and motions can go far when you are attempting
to communicate with your date, but you may want to pay special attention to how
people in his or her country motion when they speak. Rubbing your stomach to
sign that you are savoring the dinner may signify to your date that you are
pregnant. If you are a man, this could really cause some disarray. So observe,
observe, and observe some more.
